Certainly we all know couples who mesh perfectly, There’s something about them, you instinctively know they fit.
Then there’s couples that cause us to knit our brows and wonder why they’re still together. Like the proverbial oil and water that has to be shaken to mix, it’s one conflict after another over what’s supposed to be a lovely dinner.
But what about our relationship with ourselves?
Pain can wreak havoc with this most important union, too, and the resulting conflict can heap stress onto an already hurt area. We often behave badly to the one person we’re with 24/7 – ourselves.
Sharing the story of her sister with a bad hip, one client said, “It’s one thing after another, it’s been this way for a long time. I no longer offer suggestions because she doesn’t hear them and it just goes on and on.”
It’s important to learn to understand pain, your pain.
Like any damaged relationship, it often requires a skilled physical therapist to set things in order so pain isn’t your new norm. Any condition that persists after six months is often chronic and can be harder to heal. It’s not necessarily the condition that’s hard to heal, it’s more like the ‘ol married couple that’s used to being uncomfortable and will resist change.
