Maybe you were lucky enough to sit right next to your father, or like me,  feasted on sweet memories. Either way, I hope you enjoyed a nice Father’s Day.

When memories come to play, lickety split I’m seven years old running down the stairs in my nightgown to our dining room filled with the smell of Old Spice and coffee, my Dad leaning over his thick blue drawings for a glass installation, and my Mom in the kitchen cooking bacon and eggs for the ravenous breakfast crowd that’s about to descend.

Francis P. Madden, my father, founded Madden Glass in the late 60’s and today it’s a $12 Million dollar business.

Part of what Tom Brokow called the “greatest generation,” my father was a radio airman in the Navy during the war, became a carpenter, and worked tirelessly to support his family.

My father passed before seeing the incredible success that began in our dining room. While the company was sold some time ago, all twelve of us children carry on his legacy of hard work, dedication, and integrity.

I hope my Dad is proud of the work I carry on with the tools he gave me.

How about you? What are your cherished memories? What means the most to you this Father’s Day?
