My new client came in and shared a story that’s familiar to most of us. “I went to this Doctor, this PT, this chiropractor: I’ve gotten xrays, MRI’s, ultrasound and e-stim. I’ve been doing this for quite awhile…”
Wait for it, you’re probably like me and asking, “AND???”
“And my back still hurts. It hurts alot. Since the pandemic, it’s starting to hurt all the time,” she added.
All the solutions this client tried worked – for a short period. Soon as the old patterns seeped back during a long zoom call or trip to the mall, so did the pain. My client felt stuck in a never-ending cycle of pain.
Sound familiar?
One thing I’ve learned is no one can fix my back. Might sound harsh, but truth sometimes hurts before setting us free.
Because most back injuries are biomechanical, the temporary fix will hold temporarily. We’ll revert back, do what we’ve always done, until we understand what’s going on. We need targeted exercises to heal the fault lines.
Fixing my back and perhaps your back is a DIY project requiring ongoing exercises and yes, Pilates.
I gave my new client three exercises for her spinal re-set. Simple exercises that require a little time. With time and patience, we learn to “right” ourselves and move past painful habits.
We gain the confidence that this DIY project gets done.
