My family came over to celebrate my son’s birthday yesterday. It was an amazing day.

Our whole family was together, with the exception of Luke and his partner, Edwin, who live in San Francisco. How wonderful it feels to sit around a table and share stories, good food, and great laughter.

My grandchildren sat in my lap and I marveled at the baby’s perfect toes and the toddler’s ability to slip down and run across the yard fast as his feet would carry him.

These ordinary moments feel special and precious, I don’t want to take them for granted. Many of us have had to shut our doors to certain aspects of family life in our efforts to stay safe during the pandemic and now those doors are opening.

What are you most grateful for as we return to normal life? What do you notice?

As writer Natalie Goldberg says, “we can go so deep into the ordinary, it becomes extraordinary.” Truly, we’re blessed.
