I’m sure you know the acronym HALT, but it’s good to be reminded as we deck the halls and begin our endless lists.

HALT stands for hungry, angry, lonely, or tired. With so many invitations to excess, whether it’s holiday parties or too much staying in, we’re prone to these states during the holidays. Like a blinking yield sign, keeping HALT in mind helps you avoid the tendency to make matters worse when you’re run down.

Awareness is key.

Feeling good is a huge boost to enjoying your holidays. In the midst of extra pulls on your schedule, it’s good to re-commit to healthy food and exercise routines. Mindful breathing, slowing down what you’re doing, and exercise really help.

According to Google, most food cravings last three to five minutes, so if you can distract yourself, you can bypass extra helpings and stay away from too many sweets.

And, like we talked about last week, you can find ways to weave your fav exercises into the mix. Ten minutes here and there keeps you aligned and veering away HALT.

Feeling healthy and happy, after all, is one of the best gifts you can give – yourself.
